The best feel-good movies
Feel good movies aren't one thing. "Feeling good" has at least four flavors, and each one needs a different kind of film. A mood based movie recommendation understands this — movies for your mood means understanding which kind of good you're chasing.
Pure Joy. You want innocence and wonder. Finding Nemo, Up, Inside Out, Shrek. These movies don't ask anything of you. They give.
Warm Belonging. You want to feel like you're home. Forrest Gump, It's a Wonderful Life, Good Will Hunting, Paddington 2. The glow of people who care about each other.
Big Laugh. You want your ribs to hurt. Superbad, Anchorman, The Hangover, Dumb and Dumber. Turn your brain off and let the stupid wash over you.
Luxury Celebration. You want to feel like you won. The Great Gatsby, Crazy Rich Asians, The Wolf of Wall Street. Excess as therapy. The champagne mood.
The reason generic "feel good movie" lists don't work is that they lump all of these together. Forrest Gump and The Wolf of Wall Street are both feel-good movies, but they serve completely different emotional needs. What movie should I watch when I want to feel good? Depends on which flavor of good.
That's why we built Moodvies. You tell us how you feel. We know which kind of good you need.
